my car x14xe stalled today and the speedo went ape, since then its not been working, i got new tyres earlier as i was getting a knocking and that cured the knocking, just wondering if they might have knocked some kind of sensor or something? any help much appreciated

Could be the gearbox transducer then mate. That sends the signal to the clocks for speed, milage and trip counters.

Check the cig lighter. If this doesn't work, then it's the fuse IIRC.

just tried that and it works, ,
someone tld me it culd have somethng to do with a hydraulic pump ?? any ideas lads?
