no he isnt having to be put down yet, he can really do anything other than walk tho so i get to decide his fate.

TBH horses who break their legs and get put down only tend to be race horses or some extremely good show horse, so the cost of rehabilitating them when they can never race again isnt worth it so they get put down.
Normal horses like this could easily survive a broken leg or shoulder with a bit of care.

ow how wrong you are.
and how do you know what level he competes at? you dont know what his breeding lines are etc so dont say a normal horse like this. And sadly he probably cant survive with a broken shoulder. As i said the most he can do is walk.
plent of race horses/ show horses can survive from breaks and show again. the ones that get put down are the severe breaks that would need complete box rest and a cast to heel. Due to their nature they wouldnt stand that long hence why they are destroyed.

most racehorses get put down, not because of the money it costs in vet bills, but coz the majority are owned by business men who dont give a toss abotu them and know that they arent going to do as well once they have had a injury like that so it is easier for them to just get rid

They are crackers! You gelded him tho 
Its a long story the short version is he is out on loan, has a phobia of rugs, no headcollar, rug change in the wind, flipped over and landed on shoulder. He then had 6 weeks of physio and out in the field to free him off as my own vet didnt think it was broken. He was refered to the dick vet and they found a compound fracture in his scapula spine. Think jigsaw puzzle. they werent too worried as there was a hairline crack but it didnt seem to extend into the shoulder joint itself. 12 weeks box rest and back he goes. The hairline has now moved away from the rest and its too thin to pin. so never ridden again and can only walk. 3 months to see if he can just plod about a field but 3 days in and he is getting worse. I also refuse to start the bute game. He is a stupid bloody arab at the best of times so as much as i would like it to work i dont think its going to and its not fair on him.

thats awful, hard choices isn't it. I have the same with my cob, obviously i am not comparing it to you! but she went lame and i wasnt sure if she was getting a bit of laminitis, so kept her in but she makes it worse as she goes mad being in the stable and smashed half her stable to bits last week, so keep her in and she goes mad instead of rest, keep her out and she will get lammi or make it worse if shes just lame  what to do
was hoping to keep him full the colt but he is just too much he has got a screw loose so i needed to do it to calm him down

ah dhes would havebeen the same, his father was gelded a few years back too. They are too nutty as it is never mind with balls
Do you not have anywhere you can starve her? We are quite lucky there is an outdoor school the fatties get turned out in. Dhes doesnt have that problem tho

got a school but its been laid with rubber topping now so she just jumps out, she is really bad for that, cant keep her anywhere, tried electric fencing she was scared of it at first now she jumps that too, just gotta exercise her as much as poss!
at least the grass will start loosing its goodness soon, hoepfully
