Hope its not a repost guys, I aint seen it on here in the last few days anyway!!!

quote:

Praise be to the crazy goons at Opel, who’ve been hooning around the ‘ring in the new Corsa OPC (VXR to us, mind) and have become record breakers.

The pint-sized manic mini broke the record for superminis around the famous track by lapping it in a (slightly scary) 8mins 47.99seconds.

The 192bhp hatch was piloted by Manuel Reuter, an ex-Opel works driver.

Is it us, or has that given the Corsa a little more credibility?

I posted this on MIG, and watched him setoff on the webcam. It was in German though, no good for me . Theres a link on Mig i've posted with the web addy.

That time is about 14 seconds slower than an Astra VXR, but also about 6-7 seconds quicker than a Focus ST.

On a seperate note, a Vauxhall/Opel Omega also done 245mph on that huge oval test track in Germany. 1000+bhp V8 under the hood. BEardy has replied with the link on Mig.

Oops - hang on, If they're doing it all proper it's probably a full Lap... not B to G...

Oops

I retract my original statements

BEFORE EVERYONE HAS A GO AT ME! I completely Read it wrong... Firstly Standard Production car and secondly IT'S BLATENTLY A FULL LAP, Which means you've got that looooooong straight! in that case 8 mins 47 is a REALLY good time

is there an echo in here?

paul_j, sure you could lap quicker than the corsa in your 106 gti WITH MODS... but add those mod's to the corsa and do you still feel you will beat it?

works both ways

quote from the comments on the story:

"Yeah but my mates got a corsa with a 2l turbo calibra engine that wid da wicked induction system and exhaust kicks out at least 400bhp and could easily "have" that corsa. He's added a strut brace and phat rims so it corners on rails too.

Oh wait, he's in the hedge"

Daimo you can also edit -> delete like I did with my original posts. IT was a simple mis understanding. 8 mins 47 B to G isn't anything to shout about... but full lap is!!! Especially in a car without an amazing top end, as that loooong back straight would add sooo much time.

Thus in reality this 8 mins 47 full lap would be like a high 7 mins B to G lap! or low 8 min B to G lap! which is bloody amazing
