I am trying to fix my leaking oil pump and therefor need to remove timming belt.
I am stuck with the largest pully/cog at the bottom that turns the fan belt aswell, i cant get it off! if i try the timming belt turns and if i get somone to hold against my turning to keep the rest still i still cant get it off it still just turns and not the bolt im trying to get off!
Hope that makes sense!
Anyone have any tips on how to get this bolt out!
Thanks

put a long bar onto the socket and rest it tight against the engine mount. then give the key a quick flick. other than that u need an airgun, or take the starter off, so u can hold the crank dead still.

dont fancy the key idea! i have no oil in as no sump on etc!
Now if i had an airgun wouldnt i still need to hold against? so i would have same problem as moving everthing!

when i needed to do this, i got someone to press the brakes hard, with the car in gear so the crank cant turn

It will turn a bit till the "slack" in the transmission is taken up.

mate do the key thing, just a quick flick. if you realy dont fancy it do like you have been doing with your gf itl turn a bit but if you use short sharp pulls on the bar itl go. once you have the pulley off put the bolt and washer back on and time it all back up again
