every so often,a few times a day i will be driving then when i pull up to traffic lights or a roundabout and slow down and go down a gear my car will just cut out.and it feels like theres no power to it when pulling away etc.feels jerky.anyone got any ideas on what this could be?

is there any like grinding noises?

mine did this but had a grnding noise aswell turned out to be the tensioner and the belt had slipped a tooth. causeing the sluggishness and a misfire.

no theres no grinding noises or anything.its a 1995 sri. i thought it could be ICV.

ICV can cause problems like this. And the Speed sensor.

Does it do it when you push the clutch in? i.e. coming to a junction.

yes.its when i push the clutch in when coming to lights etc.

90% sure it'll be the Vehicle Speed Sensor

but even when its just idleing its seems quite boggy.like revs itself sometimes.

Never had a VSS fault myself, but that may be part of the problem. Car doesn't know what it's doing.

also would it be worth cleaning the icv just for safe keeping?if so then what shall i do?

Use carb cleaner. The ICV is located on the side of the throttle body.

Is it a 16 valve?

Take off top inlet manifold, then you can see the throttle body. The ICV is a small black cylinder thats held onto the TB with 2 torx screws. Take it off, then spray the passage with carb cleaner and clean up the ICV. Never done one on a standard engine so i'm not sure if the TB needs to be taken off.

If your worried the ICV might be fucked mate, best off to just swap it for a new one.

ok cheers mate.one other thing though.someone also mentioned that you can put brake fluid down one of the valves,then really rev the engine and thick smoke will come out but will clean all the valves when your doing this.ever heard this?

lol, the bloke use to work for vauxhall aswell.
