Better then a P1, FACT.

Not cheap when comparing to other imprezas of the same year.

I have seen version 3/4 Type-R's between 6 and 7.5k.

I would put an average condition 5 around 8k? Have seen minters many a time going for 10k+

Get the GC model number of the fijitsu heavy industries plate under the bonnet so you can confirm version. Most 98`s are version 4`s The version 5 STi i am going for was being marketed as a 6 but my investigations revealed its a 5. people often get the version numbers wrong.

wouldnt say unbreakable but can be no hassle if looked after, hear a lot of horror stories on import subarus of engine rebuilds and melted pistons. Make sure its been remapped for UK fuel or if not run it on the highest octane you can get, never hurts to add a bit of octane booster to each tank as well, knocklink is also a good piece of kit to have on one of these as it can detect when knock is occurring and can also alert you to which fuels to avoid, may also save you an engine rebuild in the long run.

yes no DCCD, just a uhm minor difference there

Plus look at the price of a mint P1 compared to a mint STi 5 Type R, the P1 does not justify the extra few thousand imo.

Not saying its a bad impreza by all means, far from it. Just over hyped to fuck and loved generally by those not in the know.

My advise is to get it remapped before ANYTHING else.Book it in with a pro like Andy Forrest..scoobyclinic..powerstation and get it checked over and mapped properley.

I'd rather pay £600 for all that than 3K for a new engine.

If you are serious about it, it needs to have masses of history/invoices etc.

If not most certainly have a spare 4k ready.

Big end failure is the most common fault with the STI5 engines (same engine as the P1) Usually piston 3 and usually down to detonation due to heat (next to the turbo and last one to be fed with fuel!)

Get a good one, get a boost gauge, oil temp/pressure gauges, use 99 ron fuel (with octane booster if you can) and look after it and they are a great car!

Im only going off what my old "humble" P1 was like and as a general rule I know nothing anyway so your probably best not listening to me anyhow!

Just buy it and enjoy it mate

Sounds like a good un.Like Set says though always keep a few k in the bank just incase anything does go wrong.

I did and my 2nd 3rd synchro went which cost £450 but that was about it.Ran them both on optimax and booster and they flew!
