Author 1.2 16v EML on at 3k rpm, loss of power...help!

On my brothers 1.2 16v, the EML comes on at 3k, with a loss of power, till the revs go below 3k, then it goes off, everything normal.

this obviously happens on the motorway, which wont let him accelerate to 70 quickly, although if he builds up the speed gradually it will go over 3k, what the hell is wrong?

yep afm, common problem. harcore flat spot from about 3000 - 4000 rpm?
