recieved an email from work (Marshall Aerospace) that the last remaining airworthy AVRO Vulcan took off at 12:27

I swear I saw one flying when I was younger at RAF Fairford (or farnborough, can never remember which is which ) 14 years ago though?! Maybe I am getting old...

I remember one of these flying into Manchester airport. I was only tiny though. We got it on an old vid camera my dad used to have.

They were part of the Nuclear Deterrant in the cold war. Service ceiling of 50,000 ft, top speed of 500 knots, 5 ton payload.

Also played a major part in the Falklands war. Flying non stop to the mid atlantic and then on from there to bomb the runway at Port Stanley. Which at the time was the longest bombing raid ever known. Using 1.1 million gallons of fuel for every raid.

Pretty impressive at the time.
