After only just finishing my previous project http://www.corsasport.co.uk/board/viewthread.php?tid=350491 I thought it was time to start talking some serious power. My previous build was OK, but amaturish, and was carried out on my drive by myself who isn't in the slightest bit qualified for any kind of car mechanics.

This time around I'm wanting to build a TOTB contender in the FWD class, which will hopefully be ready for 2009. I'm only concentrating on the engine at the moment, and not bothering with a shell until late next year. The majority of the engine will not be built by me unfortunatley though, I have the knowledge to carry out most of the work, but wouldn't trust myself to take a 500+ motor to the limits knowing it's been built by me

Anyways, enough of me babbling shit. Here is just a quick spec, some bits are undecided yet

Head
- coscast head
- port bored
- +2mm oversize inlet and outlet valves
- new 3 angle valve seats cut
- bronze valve guides
- 214N valves
- double valve springs
- steel retainers
- solid lifters
- cams (spec is undecided)
- vernier pullies

Bottom end
- decked, re-bored, port bored block
- under piston oil squirters
- girdle
- wossner low comp forged pistons 86.5mm
- steel H-section rods
- steel crank
- Z20LET oil pump
- standard water pump using older round toothed setup (metal rollers)
- modified pick up pipe for Z20 oil pump to QED shallow baffled sump
- glyco bearings
- cometic head gasket

Manifolds/Turbo
- Ram style, external wastegate exhaust manfold
- GT35 Turbo (compressor house undecided)
- Custom inlet manifold

That is the general spec of the engine. Obviously there is a lot more to think about then what I have mentioned. It will also be running managment (probably omex600). And ARP's will be used wherever they can as well.

I have had a lot of information off steveboyslim, and he is also helping me out with a lot of the parts and work. I have already bought the head off him and it is away with Neil Roper of http://www.roperdevelopments.co.uk/ and hopefully the head will be finished and built up just after Christmas. I will try and get Steve to send me some pictures of the head when it is finished, but for now these will have to do. Some bits and peices that have arrived in preparation for building the bottom end.

Pistons

Rods with ARP's

Some more goodies for bottom end

Head and main studs

And here's a few pics of my T3 flanged manifold

Any ideas, constructive critism and help is much appreciated. As well as all the banter and carry on It will be a slow build but good things come to those who wait

You'll find out as soon as I do

TBH I don't have a clue, even toying with the idea of putting into something NOT Vauxhall! Just depends on what kind of solid shell I can get my hands on

I'm suprised you haven't seen one, it's one of Beardy's manifolds, he did a group buy on them a while back. All mandrel bends and back purged, nice peice of kit really

The Turbo flange does sit close to the block though, so the turbo has to be mounted the other way around. Easily sorted though.

I have thought about that sooooo much. It's just the money side of things that hold me back. A decent mk2 shell is a couple of grand, then all the work on the shell, then fitting it all out. And things aren't cheap for the mk2's so it can easily turn into a 10k-15k car before you even put the engine in.
