Interested in the See Speak Surf deal they are offering.

I'm currently paying £30 to Eclipse for their premium 8mb service, in which they now throttle BT traffic the cunts.

Anyone on sky bb? can they rate them? I see theres a 40GB limit, is that enforced properly?

I was gonna get this but BT wanted £125 to send an engineer to double check the line was installed. Virgin want £5

I use Sky, it's good, it's only an extra £5 for unlimited so you may aswell get that if you're worried about the bandwidth limit.

the hardware provided Will is a Netgear router thats all pre-configured i belive, not sure if you have access to the interanl setup, maybe just the wireless options and encryption, thats about it.

Not sure if you can use a 3rd party routers too?

Sky broadband is VERY good, few family members have it, doesnt seem to drop out like TALKTALK

The router is preconfgured, but you can extract the settings out of it

You can access all the settings, but you are bound by contract to use the Netgear unit. Your username is the routers MAC address and the password is hidden in the firmware somewhere in hex just to make it even harder to use your own stuff. But it's a nice router so why bother using anything else?

I've had sky broadband for about a month so far and its been faultless with no downtime. Its running about 12mbps at the minute, but that might be helped because we're resonably close to the exchange.

I've had no problems with Sky at all. Way faster than the other provuders in my area.

my mate uses his own router but then he got his password so thats maybe how (we both work for SKY) but i dont use there DSL as LLu is not in my area

The password can somehow be extracted apparently, no idea if you can change the MAC address on a router though.

MAC address is th physical adress of the unit, doubt u can change that, although u might be able to mask it somehow?

I had Sky BB when I lived in Manchester last year, but they don't cover my area where I live now. I had the unlimited package, and they didn't care how much I nailed it (unlike other 'Unlimited' packages). You wouldn't really need to change the router- the Netgear unit is brilliant. I reflashed the Sky router with the Netgear firmware and am now using it instead of our BT Home Hub, so if you want to unlock the router then it's easy enough.
