That counts as the registration not being displayed correctly, so no, it wouldn't work.
Props to whoever figured out that they could get away with it in the Ukraine though!

I would imagine that you would fall foul of UK law as most of the upside down characters are not in the set of letters A-Z which are approved for use on a plate, ie. an upside-down A in that example is just a V with a line through, which isn't in the alphabet.

Same issue as misrepresenting letters.

Also if you read your plate from left to right you would end up with a false VRN. Same as getting a fake one made up or ringing the car.

Plus it only works for ANPR type cameras. Human prosecuting officer would easily work out actually what your reg is, having first victimised you for being a smart-ass.

Bit pointless isnt it as im sure the police would work it out its upside down and youd still get a ticket?

wouldn't even work for speed cameras as every camera photo is looked at by humans who'd just turn the photo upside down
