corsa b sri thats got the x14xe engine right?
shouldnt be able to change the ignition timing (if you can would like to know how)
try using 97oct fuel and see what it does

how do you know its pinking? is it just pinking under load or throughout the revs and at idle?
pinking can be caused by lots of things, ignition timing wont make it stop pinking as pinking isnt related to the timing of the spark in any way.

mm i see, its pinking under load....

pinking is basicly this:
the compressed air/fuel mixture is being pre-ignited by a heat/ignition scource other than the spark plug.
detonation is very different:
the compressed air/fuel mixture is being pre-ignited by the spark plug, meaning ignition timing is too far advanced.
both can have the same effect:
sparking and igniting the air/fuel too early in the pistons stroke meaning the piston is being forced up by the crank but is being forced down at the same time by the expansion of the burning air/fuel mixture. it causes a knocking sound because the piston is 'shocked' by this and it is forced to shake inside the cylinder and cause a shockwave through the engine block. If pinking/det is loud enough to hear clearly from inside the car then it must either be really really bad or its not pinking/det.
I have seen both of the above occurances destroy engines within seconds.

if its pinking then its being caused by something inside the cylinder igniting the air/fuel mix.
what does it sound like?

does your car have a standared center section? as my cr started to well it sounds like someones got a very small hammer and is tapping really bloody fast on a metal table ths only happens at 3k onward and only under load if i rev gently the engine wont make this sound.

are you sure its a c14se?...
as if its a x14nz it has a knock sensor....
..it sounds like knock sensor to me, have you had it fault coded yet?

there is no fault code, and its defo a c14se. apparently these engines cant actually be ajusted if its timing, its just a pre set on ecu..... correct me if im wrong!
may it be air fuel mixture causing pinking?

fail.
Pinking is almost the same as detonation.....the second description..
the first description is pre-ignition.

could be the ignition timing too far advanced... there must be a way of retarding your ignition, weather it be mechanical or electrical.

would be electrical by the sounds of it. looks like a remap is on its way to stop the noise.

love the fact that you appeal for help in the HELP section yet you wont take any answer on board and you already KNOW what the problem is!

'pinking' is a term used to describe 'PRE IGNITION' and 'DET' or 'KNOCK' are terms used to describe detonation. Come back when you are a qualified EFI technician and try and fail me
