I've been looking at Coupes and GSi's.

Just wondered what peoples thoughts are on these.
Like both cars.

Whats the 2.2 engine like?

any thoughts?

2.2 is good enough, its not that quick over a 1.8 though

more of a personal preference thing

i went for the 2.0t gsi and found it great, bit dull tho

Personally circa 150 brake and a long ratio 'box on quite a big car is never gonna be excitement central, but then i've never driven one so don't know. Turbo's could be more problematic if high miler, but if you plan on keeping it, it's got more room for improvement in terms of performance.

If you're worried about costs, go for the 2.2, if not get the 2.0 IMO, but drive both first to see which you preffer.

Its a saab engine, I had a few problems with mine, spend most my last 3 months owning it, driving a Freelander.

I love the engine tho, plenty torque!

I've driven all of them & the 2.2 doesn't seem loads quicker but driving it about you are much happier in the 2.2 due to the extra torque (over the 1.8)

Fuel consumption isn't great though!

I had a 2.2 SE2 and loved the thing... only major downside is the consumption on the 2.2. overall its pretty poor on petrol and the 2.0 turbo coupes/gsi's get the same if not better mpg.

only problem you have is the se2 only comes in a 1.8 and 2.2..

if it was me i'd go for the 1.8

the 2.2 is a big cruiser to be honest... it when its moving it will pull and pull right up past the 140 mark and you'll hardly notice the speed.

I bought a GSi with my Ex but she got the car when we split. Loved it to drive but again didnt feel it to be that quick compared to my Valver Corsa.

But its not all about the speed.

Thanks for the coments, i'll look about first. My mate has a 1.8 Coupe and its a nice motor and by no means slow either.

I do short journeys to GF's, work, footie etc and Im averaging 29.6mpg so not too bad. Get about 300 miles to a £45 tank aswell. Isnt a flying machine but as mentioned lovely to just cruise in 2.2 BTW

If consumption is really that bad for a N/A 2.2 then they really have made a shit engine, lets be fair.
