New, special regulations for the Nurburgring Nordschleife for next year during TouristenFahen.
- All German cars, (which must by law TÜV approved) will be allowed, provided that they can produce TÜV certificates/papers for any modifications on the car on demand
- Non German cars which are standard will be allowed(*)
- Non German cars which are modified will be allowed provided they can produce TÜV certificates/papers for all modifications on demand.
The reason for this is to combat the growing number of race cars which have been using TouristenFahren for cheap practice with a set of foreign plates on, and similarly cars with questionable modifications.
What the general thinking of this, is it will be enforced somewhat like the current noise testing etc, i.e. provided your car looks alright and proper, and you're well behaved you will be unlikely to get challenged.
However, in the event of an incident you'd get in a lot of bother, if you couldn't produce papers...
Similarly if your driving or your car attracts attention to itself, you might be checked...
Most parts (e.g. KW suspension, AP brakes) have TÜV approval, so you should be able get papers for them easily if they didn't come with your kit, by writing to the manufacturer if you have lost them.
Bits off race cars might be harder to explain though..
Can see, and understand why they're doing this from a safety point of view....
Similarly, its going to hope the local specialists, who might well get more business, as a result of perhaps non German tuners not understanding TÜV regulations...
If you have specialist components in your car, for which you don't have TÜV certificates, it is possible to get a SuperTÜV done, but its quite costly.

So by that link anything with an EC mark should be ok. Filter, lowering, shocks etc should be fine then....
But something like a custom roll-cage is not allowed. Is that right?

As it's no longer a standard car, no.
I'm guessing they won't notice or care until you bend it, at which time the map will be read out and analysed and you'll be fined or something.

Well not really. A lot of parts bought in the UK don't come with TUV approval.

quote: Your best bet is to carry the paperwork that came with things like rollcages, aftermarket suspension, brakes, etc, to show that they have some kind of approval: TUV, FIA, EC markings
am i understanding it comlpletely wrong?

There was info about this on ben lovejoys site as well as others...
It'll be fine.
Plus ... You prove I've got cams and remap, and I'll prove it's TUV approved
You prove my exhaust isn't standard, etc.

id guess that they wont take your car away and test its power to make sure it hasnt been remapped ian. thats plain stupid anda waste of time and resources.

They don't need to test its power, then need to compare the map with a standard one. On most of the maps I've seen, its apparent by looking at the file as text, you don't even need special software.
Depends on their agenda really which is difficult to tell from that small bit of information.

so are you saying they will plug every single car in that crashes? so they will have to have software to read every type of ecu?
or just waffling to comment on something steve wrote.

I think most of the people worried about it, has never been to the nurburgring
They're so relaxed over there it's awesome... Over here everything is strict and guidelines... over there, they have rules, but no one really cares if you break them / hopes everyone has enough sense!
For example... you can walk ALL around the track, nothing is limited to you... infact you can just walk straight onto the track anywhere if you wish (and wanted to die!)
If that was in the UK, you'd have kids putting stones on the track to fuck up the cars, but thankfully germany is more civalised lol.
Also your 'not allowed' video camera's, but I never got stopped doing my vids.
There's a whole load of legislation about it, most of it is just there to cover themselves if something happens... not to hamper anyone's enjoyment.
I would not be worried in the slightest taking my car out... It practically looks standard on the outside.

Yeah I'm picking on Steve, quote me.
I'm making the point that it can be tested. If they've got rules for it then it would make sense to be able to enforce them.
And the list of ECUs to test maps from is only the same as the list of ECUs which can be mapped in the first place, and I happen to know there's a chap down the road sells the gear to do it as I've been there.
So yes, its possible to detect a remap.
Whether they would care, yes, doubtful. But they can.
