i'd put my money on your graphics card then, tried a different monitor on the "faulty" pc?

128mb graphics cards are inexpensive so not a big problem

Is the cable actually plugged into the correct place?

Is the VGA cable coming from the onboard gfx?

i've had this problem in the past, usually by powering up the pc before switching the monitor on - casued some sort of error and wouldn't allow my TFT panel to switch on.

The way i solved it was to uninstall the drivers and then reinstall them using an old CRT monitor.
I would resit the card in a different slot if it's PCI, otherwise try and hunt down another monitor and see if that works.

Failing that, if remote desktop is on, then use another system to remotely gain access and unistall the drivers, reinstall them etc. Or try and get VNC installed of some sorts (if you have access to another system you can create an all in one configured package that you could try and install and then remotely connect to the system).

otherwise, reinstall windows

graham - if you get two beeps then it usually meants something has failed. Best bet is to get hold of your motherboards manual as it should tell you what different beeps mean

2 beeps are related to memory problems apparently. I am not confident in computer internals to attempt it to be honest..
