Well ive just brought my first car and dads going to pick it up tomorrow afternoon, i insured it monday but ive got to wait for a cover note to get my tax.
How long does this cover note take to come?
and if i do the tax online, they say it can take 2 weeks for the disk to arrive can i drive the car during this time?

yeh u can drive, if you get pulled over they look up on a computer to see if u have tax
only problem you may have is not having a tax disc in display.
they put a note saying i needed to go to the station when my disk fell of my window and was not in display when parked, i just went down with my documents and explanined.
so you wont get anyproblems when driving about as long as u have paid for it

my tax disc online came through within days rather than 2 weeks! but you might be alright with a email print out of your insurance cover note

tbh your insurance would send it out first class, they usualy do...

cant tax a car with a print out e-mail or fax or anything, need the actual document. and if you order online you need to wait for it to come before you drive still!

it must say on the website wether you can drive on it or not!

No point risking it...you might aswell wait for cover note either today or tommrows post then go post office!

I got a parking ticket and got reported for not displaying a tax disk at the same time. Even though it was technically taxed at the same time, failure to display meant a £60 fine aswell as the £30 parking fine!

Failure to display is an offence - if you drive while not displaying you are liable for a fine.

Note in the windscreen is largely pointless. If you get done, you have no defence in saying you bought it, that isn't what they're doing you for.
