Yes.

Special one off kits for both teams too. United will have no sponsors or numbers.

isn't it a few days after?

City are appealing to the fans to consider what happened and also consider one of their own died in the tragedy

Just hope they have a bit of respect

To be fair, Man U have built their finances and success off it. If it hadn't happened they wouldn't be one of the worlds biggest clubs, it is that simple.

I understood what he was getting at regarding liverpool and everton at home

(The way Wenger worded it was just to cause the reaction it has imo)

But what he has just said means i can no longer take anything seriously

United have built their success and finances off the trophy's we started winning in the 90's, 33 years after Munich. Please have some respect and refrain from trying to use a tradgdy to provoke people.

You were already a bigger team (financially) than anyone else in England prior to the 90's. The fact that they were essentially taken out of the later stages of the competition and had to borrow players from lesser teams to compete league fixtures warmed peoples hearts. I aint saying it to be sick. Look at the how they were post war, prior to Busby they were nothing.

I aint saying it to be disprectful. Cosmo just wants to make me out to be a 'wind up merchant' because he cannot back up the poor claims he makes.

I have a shed load of programmes here that my mother owns, including their epic European Cup win. She admits that they are where they are due to the tragedy (you lot are daft if you think I am praising peoples deaths?)

Fans should know their clubs history.

So your mother is a fooking numpty as well then

Busby took charge of united in 1945, straight after the war, he didn't just magically appear in the plane crash

United did nothing post war, they came second in the league, 4 times, and 4th on another occasion and won the FA Cup in 1948, all in the first 5 years at the club. United reserves also won the league on the first season back from the war

You can't say with any grounds the plane crash helped united to get where they are, massive support has got united where they are

over 1million supporters watched a game throughout the 1947/48 season

Kindly, crawl back under your rock

I was actually refering to the First WW when I said ‘post war’

I can say with considerable grounds that it has aided United’s appeal, you have IMO 3 main era’s in the clubs history, the Munich era, The George Best era and The Ferguson era.

In that ‘Munich era’ you had only just really started to have any sustained success for arguably the first time in the clubs history. With them being amongst the favourites for the European Cup it was inevitable that it would be big news. It is also worth bearing in mind that TV was very scarce then so foreign supporters would have been few/far between. (I cannot envisage foreign games being screened in other countries, its not as if you had the vast choice of channels as you do nowadays).

Foreign people would be aware of the previous results and tragedy itself from press or radio. Their return and success in the Best era would then have gained considerable support due to a sort of Pheonix from the flames/raising or battling against adversity way.

Your 1 million figure is the years combined attendances I assume? These were days when the average attendances were far higher for the majority of clubs than they are nowadays (standing, little in terms of alternative entertainment etc)

I have no idea about Scottish football clubs on the whole, it doesn't interest me.

Nice to see that you can participate in an adult discussion.

An adult discussion?

Your first comment within this thread reads like this to your everyday punter like myself.....

If there was no Munich disaster Man United wouldn't have became the team, club and institution they are today. Are you for real?

I have stated above reasoning as to why I feel that the tragedy in itself was a contributing factor, even to the point of putting generalised emotional and slight historical reasoning behind it.
