Take engine out, throw in the wheelie bin and replace with bigger, better engine

I'd go for the free mods first, debadging etc...and just generally giving the car a real good clean and polish..Clean cars always look better
You could also lower it, get a set of alloys, new grille, lights etc? A gsi spolier would also make it look nicer, they can be picked up pretty cheap too

The biggest wall you can find and the highest up in the rev range you can get in 5th gear.

they mite not be quick but they are a good way to build up some no claims.
wheels, lower and a good clean up is always a good way to start then when and if you can afford it stick a bigger engine in and keep the 12v badges.

My advice is dont make the engine louder by fitting a bigger back box and induction kit, It just advertises to people that your car is going flat out and its not very fast
