i found the one i got delivered today on ebay, brand new, loads of things on it, 32" (doesnt have freeview though) for just over 300.

I can recommend the Panasonic 26" TV's.
whatever tv you go for, get the highest contrast ratio you can afford eg. 8000:1 as this will give you a better image. Also check connectivity, you'll want 2x HDMI, component, scarts etc.. for future proofing!
Samsungs tend to have a poor contrast ratio by the way.

Not too fussed about that really, it's only an occasional TV for the dining room, it'll get used once a week at the most.

i disagree the one i have is 7000:1 and the one i displayed is 5000:1, compared to the toshiba at 700:1, heres two that are above 5000:1 http://www.ebuyer.com/search/?strSearch=&bolShowAll=true&intCatID=133&intSubcatUID=2352&intMfrID=40&bolShowAll=true and i would say average on most tv'sis about 2000:1

the average is about 7000:1 mate, anything lower is poor. my pana is 8000:1, wouldnt go any lower than that tbh, personal preference though and if its not going to be used very much get a samsung, but dont expect it to be brilliant

I wouldn't be buying a tv based on contrast ratio alone, especially because they don't all measure it the same way.
Go any buy one you like the look of, not because it has one stat that might be higher than another tv.
Edit to say my samsung has an 8000:1 contrast ratio and the bigger models are up in the teens.
