Ok basically i want to start focusing more attention on tuning my X16XE lump, and im just unsure on what direction to go.
At the moment the car has -
Full magnex exhaust
Sports Cat
Induction Kit
Mantzel Inlet
And the car is a daily driver so i would prefer to keep mods which wont effect drivability too much.
If you had a budget of 1000-1500 what would you do next?
Cheers, lUKE

I would purchase a C16XE head and have it gasflowed. I know someone that will do it for you.
Then, enclosed induction kit, Newman 264 cams, pullies, manifold, de-cat, ARP rod bolts, SBD rollers, then have it mapped with a rev limit of 7500rpm. Should be 150bhp then.

Speaking from experiance..........
I'd fuck the mantzel off and go down the route of a TB kit from Dave A.
Less hassle in the long run, and 150BHP in one package.

Cheers guys!
But with TB'S and Cams, is day to day driving easy enough? cause i dont fancy something thats going to be unreliable + difficult to drive around towns/cities.
And yeah 150bhp was the figure i have in my head to aim for.
+ Engine managment, will this need to be changed with the use of cams? or im guessing standard mapped is fine?

With cams and TB's, yes. No problems.
Engine management: You'd have to get adjustable pullies to ge tthe most out of the cams and then have them dialled in properly and mapped to suit.
V-Sport in Durham do a lot with the X16. Give them a call and go through the options.

we do a lot with these engines as people have said, we have loads of tuning options available but if you want real power save up for a tb kit.
drivability and reliability is down to the cams you go for and who builds it really, even with big cams these engines seem to keep their drivability.

But to get the most out of TB's you need bigger duration cams than the one's I stated, which means pocketed pistions, all adds up...

If your gonna go the mantzel route, your not making 'proper' power.
Plus they are peaky, only work in the top of the revs and you won't see a real gain in torque.
I still say TB's are the best way. For what you spend on a mantzel and all the rest of it you could have a decent TB setup, reliability and better power.

I think TB'S will be abit too far advanced for me. plus tad to pricey.
Im correct a 4-2-1 Janspeed Manifold, 264 cams, remap, lightened flywheel, vernier pulleys would be within the 1k - 1.5k price range?

I reckon you'd be looking at just over a grand for that lot.
Try MSD in blackpool for the re-map. They are highly recommended.

If done correctly Luke, they will be reliable. But, they are expensive to do. I priced it up to about 3K for parts
As a guage for you, my 1.6 had 132BHP with mild cams, mantzel, exhaust, de-cat. But, no re-map.

You not gonan bother with the xe conversion then?
If your sticking with the 1.6 then id go for tb's etc just save up like 1500 take it in to Dave A and let him create you a monster not sure if 1500 would be enough though

I think you can get a kit off dave A for £1500, supplied, fitted & mapped. Need cams, pullies and a manifold on top of that then though.

You can try Mantzel style power without being out of pocket too much

Nothing wrong with that.
Headgasket>Spacer plate>Headgasket
How else would you expect to use a spacer plate?
