Hi all, I did a quick search and found similar cases but not the same so decided to post.
My speedo has stopped working and shows no speed what so ever when driving, I think the cause of this may be something to do with the other day when me and my cusin fitted an amp and sub into the boot via the head unit. The rev counter, petrol gauge and temp gauge work fine.
Once we had fitted the amp and sub we realised that the aerial cable for the radio had become disconected due to it being a short cable and when the head unit was removed it had come loose from the back of the head unit. In order to refit the aerial cable to the head unit we had to take of the ash tray/cig lighter tray, by this time my dad came out thinking he knows best and tried to help, once the tray was off we discovered there was a disconected cable (a grey one I think) at the back of the cig lighter so my dad decided to plug the cable into a slot in the back of the cig lighter and everything seemed to work as it did before exept now I had a radio signal wire again and a new wire pluged into the back of my cig lighter. Once everything was reconected I moved the car from where we carried out the changes to it's usual parking place and the speedo seemed to work fine and so did the cig lighter. I've just been out in it tonight and first off I used the cig lighter for my passenger and it worked fine, we then went for a drive and straight away we noticed the speedo wasn't working, then once we got back the cig lighter wasn't working either.
I have a 2000 W Reg 1.2 16V SXi, could it be that wire my dad attatched to the back of the cig lighter that is affecting the speedo? I'm thinking maybe it was disconected for a reason as there was one already in but this was a second wire which was loose I think. I'll have a look tomorrow and try disconecting it again and see if my speedo works but until then could anybody confirm that this is the problem.
Thanks all,
Korza

Have a look in the fuse box under the headlight switch. The pannel will have all the numbers and info on, think its printed on the block where the fuses push in too.
That should be your problem as I think yours is probably an electric speedo rather then a cable driven one.

Hi mate, it was fuse 18 that had blown but fuse 17 pointed me in the right direction. It was a yellow 20 amp fuse that had blown in the fuse 18 slot, probally something to do with the wire that my dad conected so I've now disconected that and everything is as normal exept no spare 20 amp fuse, lol. Nice one mate :-D
