Been looking at coilovers for my little red tractor (1.6 sport) looking to spend around £5-600

Been looking at:

Avo sport evolution
H&R
Koni
Spax RSX
Wietec Hicon TX

Anyone had any dealings with any of these? good bad ugly? any other recomendations?

H&R's if money is no object but if you want a wicked set for not much speak to Pickford for some GAZ ones.

Avoid the ones "designed" by V sport

here goes fad again, never used them or seen them yet he has his usual childish opinion. I have now sold 12 sets of the Vsport spec coilovers to members on here and have always had great feedback and reviews.

Fad, what evidence do you have to back up your comments?

Is it not because you said you designed them for GAZ rather than saying you just specify which spring poundage you think is best for you customers engine weight?

I don't think thats all he did to be fair

"we take 1 standard strut, spring and hub assembly and work from that as a base. we then make various drawings of the standard items and work out how much lower the car would need to be and reduce piston length as well as shock body length. the car will then be corner weighted to decide on spring poundage and then the damping rates will be decided on based on the piston length, spring poundage and length of available stroke. We then design the appropriate brackets and camber settings where applicable.

then final drawings and spec will be drawn up using a CAD program and these drawings and specs will be sent to the manufacturers. they make the struts to our spec and another company will make the springs and topmounts for us.

The suspension is them re-fitted onto the car and tested for its paticular use and set up accordingly. Often the design will need to be tweeked a few times to get it right, the corsa B kit took 3 attempts to get various aspects of it right, the corsa C kit was a lot easier.

Quite often a kit wont be available off the shelf for a paticular vehicle so we can make it up from scratch to the customers own spec, did one recently for a customers TVR with great results. "

The sizes on the front Struts on the Vsport kit are very different, as well as the design of the shock body and the stroke length of the damper. Rear springs and shocks are the same except we use a slightly different poundage spring and have the option of 4 different springs (depending on car use/amount of interior) as well as rear coilovers as an option. We also do an extra extra short rear damper as an option to suit the 90mm rear springs.

Rally design do not offer different rear springs or dampers with their kit, just the standard 'off the shelf' Gaz kit which will not go any lower than around -40mm on the fronts without the bumpstops being used a lot, hence the reason on the Vsport spec kit the shock bodies and piston stroke has been altered.

Also, unlike the Vsport spec dampers the standard front struts wont accept an eccentric (alloy) topmount without the use of spacers or extra machining on the thread tops
