basically, does the insurance group of the car always dictate the price of the premium?

im 17 and buying another car, im just wondering if buying something not normally associated with teens will mean the insurance will keep the price down or slightly raised?

mazda 323 saloon, skoda felicia estate, nothing with huge engines just not popular!

Nah the grouping is just a guide, actual insurance companies look at a whole range of stuff to determine a quote.

I know Norwich Union used to give 49% Discount to people with Pass Plus. When i was 17 my 1.2 corsa was £1600 fully comp, went down to around £800.

Loads of factors - usually how often a car is stolen plays a big part.

They would probably like the fact that no one ever steals or crashes one but dislike your driving record. Different insurers will weight things differently as well. You need quotes really.

Some factors they look at, cost of parts, how often they are crashed(or crashed into), how often they ar nicked, how often they are broken into, the colour, size of engine, etc

Corsa's (b & c), are miles cheaper to insure for me than any other car in the catagory, a corsa c 1.4 is just over £2000 with direct line(always cheapest for me) but others like a fezza 1.25zetec(99-02) is over 2k, a 1.4 16v polo they won't give me a quote on!

I paid £1850 fully comp in my own name when I was 17 and learning. It didn't change when I passed, and Pass Plus took it down by as much as Pass Plus cost me!

edit: 306 1.9 TD

My first car 1.4 8v Corsa LS

Insured it 3rd party while i was learning at Norwich Union (always cheapest by 50% for me), £1250, then when I got my Pass Plus (gave my driving instructor £60 and he signed the certificate for me ) I got a rebate of £290 about half way through my policy, which was nice

So when you get quoted ask if PP makes a difference, because if it doesnt theres no point doing it (unless you want to do it for practice)

well i paid £20 for my pass plus, the welsh assembly have a scheme of paying the other £100.

i wont use it now though, my policy finishes in june and ive already paid the policy so i stand to get naff all back.

i do understand the bit about the corsas being the cheapest thing to insure, but ive already had one and to be honest i dont want another. i want an estate now lol

wait until renewal to declare it, but i will change to whatever insurance company gives the biggest discount for it.

the amount of cars that have had claims on them in that class in that month too.

eg.
Mate insured an escort 1.8 gti when he was 18 no NCB
he turned 19 and had 1yr NCB and his insurance went up by £250 this was because lots of escort GTI's had been claimed (on/with Crashed/stolen) in the month of his renewal.
tbh i think insurance is alot of chance and luck

Like my Astra turbo being £100 cheaper than my Corsa GSI.
