Dad is wanting to trade in his E46 M3 in for something more practical. And by practical, I mean less insurance, less fuel, less repair bills and so on.
The M3 is an '02 52 car, with private plate and more importantly, genuine BMW facelift rear light LED's. This means it could potentially be one of the newest E46's they made. Therefore, more desirable. It is fully loaded. HarmonKardon hifi, sat nav, TV, sun roof, pretty much every extra. It has only just covered 30k miles.
We went looking at Audi A3 2.0TDi S-lines at the weekend. Because they aren't BMW dealers, they had to ring dad back with a trade in price, which they got from another BMW that would buy it off them.
The price? £16,500 
I don't want to get into how much he bought it for and how much it depreciated. The point I'm trying to make is dad has seen M3's, of slightly newer age but worse condition, less extras, higher mileage, for about £23k in dealerships. Normally they give you £3k less than what they'd sell it for. But £7k?
(And yes, the trade in price through Audi probably won't be as good as trading in at a BMW garage, but still).

have you looked on Parkers/Wisebuyers?
they give very good prices, i typically agree with them...do they match your £23k price?
EDIT: they always say that top spec cars have great depreciation than otherwise....

I'm not saying they should offer him £23k.
I'm saying they should offer between £19k and £20k imho.
Just looked on Parkers. Part exchange is apparently £17,750. What a load of toss.

I forgot to add dad's has SMGII, which non of them have.
Thanks anyway but I don't see why they have to offer such a little amount.
I know everyone is out to make money, but £7k mark up on a used car is a lot.

if you search PH some more there are cars going at the £23k price...but why pay the £7k more? as you know i'm looking for a new car, i've seen some with 20-30k more miles going for £800 more than my upper limit budget....makes no sense ut thats the car industry
NB its mainly trade places that have these prices

Your never going to get a good price trading in a car like that, esspecially to a non bmw dealer.

meh, just one of them situations.
John - it may be one of them cases, granted. But the condition of a car seems to make no difference to price any more. The only 'blemishes' dads car has, are stone chips on the front. Nothing else. It is 'mint'.

Sounds perfectly fine, also an Audi dealer isn't going to have the best luck selling a BMW.

Because they have large overheads to take into account. Its 6yrs old, its not going to go on the forecourt in an Audi garage - regardless of condition! There going to have to try & sell that car on & believe me they wont get anywhere near to 23k for it, the'll prob sell it on through a smaller non-franchise there connected with for give or take, around what they would be paying for it - the non-franchise will then mark it up to a rediculous price - like the ones your compairing to on PH / AT that will be what happened with most of them. Its how the car industry works.

Also, after a quick flick through the Auto Trader, your dad is in a dream world. £16k sounds like a good offer imo.
