I know their are a few accountants on here, and also a few business owners....just wondering what accounting software you use? Im converting the paper based accounting we do now to a computer based one as we are going to be expanding fairly quickly and will make things much easier in the future.

Ive used Sage a little in the past and this is currently top of my list as to which to use, but wouldnt mind a few opinions on this and other software out there.

yeah go with sage line 50, as you expand you can move up to line 100 or 200, perfectly capable, only problem with sage is its very unforgiving if you cock up. There arent really any credible alternatives imo although microsofts one may be worth a look and also a program by iris

My mum and sister own a bridal shop, and are looking to expand with about 5 or 6 more before the end of the year (currently buying the 2nd right now), so have asked me to come onboard and basically run the business side and allow them to concentrate on the day to day bridal shite.

So at the moment Ive been indentifying possible targets (have a list of about 6 at the moment that we are due to meet with this week) aswell as speaking to the lawyers/accountants/etc. about business structure, working practices, and a load of other really boring rubbish

It wont be full time for me, its just something I can do to bring an income in for the next 6-12months whilst I set something of my own up.

And yes and no, Im getting a % of the company ownership, aswell as drawing cash as being a partner in it. When we incorporate it (probably after we reach 4 shops in total and have a turnover of just over £1m) then I'll be put onto a proper wage I think.

TBH we have most of it sorted as the business has been running on its own for the last 16months or so now. And we have most of the (basic outline) purchase contracts sorted as we bought the ladieswear shhp that is next door to the bridal shop to do Mother of the Bride and stuff like that.

I may end up picking your brains anyway (over a beer at the match)

TBH thats what me and my Dad were discussing with the accountants and then the lawyers a lot of yesterday.

Its not the cost of doing it that bothers us, its the tax benefits of being a partnership. At the moment we can handle the risk as turnover is only around £350k. Once we buy up one or two more though it'll be pushing £700-800k so that'll be the time.
