If two people are with the same bank, (halifax) and they want to trasnfer quite alot of money (few thou) would it go through straight away or how long would it take ?

im with natwest, as is my mother, and they go through there and then.
may differ by bank to bank. best to just ring up and ask

if you have transfered before then its instant there is a 24 hour delay when setting up for the first time as they do a check

Ah right so basically its not been trasnfered between before, so it should go through in 24 hours then ?

with halifax you transfer with roll numbers between accounts so they take 24 hours up to to check them once thats done it will be instant mind if you ring and do it will be instant as have had to do that before as well just on line is24 hours

Ah right, they will be going into the bank with my details like sort code, account number etc, and asking to transfer from there halifax account into mine..

I bank my the halifax and so does the misses. We do it all the time.
