Do you have all the correct engine mounts? 1.2 rad will be fine, but it would be a thing to change in the future.

yeah got both sets of mounts, 1.2 and the 1.6 so I'll see which ones are the best fit when I get on with it.

rad will be fine and you'll use the 1.2 mounts (sides) cant remember if it's 1.2 or 1.6 mount for the rear though, but won't matter to you if you have both.
what struts do you have?? and do you have the manifold and cat with the new engine? the 1600 and 1200 cats are different so you will need a 1600 cat.

what are you doing about the PAS on the x16 since your 8v won't have it? if you remove it (thats what i did) you'll need a different belt since the pulley will be taken off too

funny you should say that richie......I've just ordered a new belt.....it will be here in the morning......I only realised as i'm just putting the engine together now
piston rings are expensive aren't they??
x16xe full set of rings were 120 quid!!....that was the cheapest i could get them for

will take some pics as soon as weather improves a bit!
I was let down on wednesday with the accelerator cable (they sent me the one for the 1.2 8 valve....which I already had)
anyway picked the correct one up this morning and fitted it........
lovin the power absolute flying machine (compared to 1.2 8 valve anyway)
heres a run down of the cost, (did it meself with help from a haynes manual..... so no labour)
x16xe engine (70k miles) and f15 gearbox........75 quid (off ebay)
new bearing shells.......30 quid
new piston rings.........120 quid
complete gasket set (every gasket on the engine).......80 quid
timing belt kit........30 quid
new oil pump.......80 quid
misc (oil, oil filter, jubilee clips, cable ties etc etc).......60 quid
gsi drive shafts.......30 quid (from breakers)
loom, ecu, transponder and chip......70 quid (off a lad on here)
x16xe accelerator cable.......40 quid (from vauxhall)
mpi fuel pump.....25 quid (off a lad on here)
it now runs as it should.....like brand new....loads of power
not a bad project....I would recomend it to anyone with a 1.2 8 valve
