hey all, my 2.0 16v nova failed to start a few weeks ago, when i bumped it it started first time. i thought this was due to not having much fuel in the tank, so since then i have kept the tank pretty full, and it has started fine everytime, however,
thismorning, with a full tank, the car wouldn't start again, bumped it and it started first time. also after a small drive, once the engine was turned off, it started by turning the key no problem. on this drive i also noticed that my temperature gauge/sensor wasn't working. half way through the drive the gauge started working again.
could a dodgy temp sensor cause the car not to start?
any other thoughts on this?
cheers, chris.

Could be the starter motor. Can you hear the solenoid spinning?

Does it turn over but not start on the key when you get this problem or wont it turn over at all?

Might not be enough compression. Are the plugs clean? Does it have a distributor?

The temp sensor gives a reading of resistance between the temp wire and the earth of the engine so If the engine wasnt earthed properly it would give you problems with the temperatire gauge. But if its turning over ok then the engine must be earthed pretty well so I wouldnt have thought its related, have a look at the wire to the temp sensor just to rule out the obvious. Still wouldnt explain it not starting though

had a play with some wires today, turns out the blue temp gauge sender wire was a bit frayed so this was an easy fix to get the temp gauge reading accurately again.
however wiggleing some of the wires seemed to have an effect on whether the car started or not :s any thoughts??
