Legitimately Free you can use windows movie maker from windows updates, but it sucks.
Otherwise you could 'obtain' either Sony Vegas or Adobe Premier, both pretty good and easy to get to grips with the basic features.

Adobe Premiere or Avid if you want to get a little serious, both might be a little OTT for what you need though but you can do some impressive stuff, especially if you export from Premiere to after effects....

If it's for putting on YouTube, i.e. just putting 6 clips together, Windows Movie Maker will be more than adequate.
Bundled with our Sumsung headcam was UleadVideoStudio which is really quite good. No idea if it is free or not though

Unlead Video Studio 8 is what i use to create the stuff
and then use TPMGenc to re-encode it to a small but good quality file.

The Ulead I have has loads of things to compress. Just go to the 'Share' tab. Normally works really well
