Finally got round to doing my 2.0 XE conversion and i noticed that the gearbox that is fitted to my 1.6 engine has no speedo cable and no tranducer thing coming out of it only the reverse light switch. Where it would normally be just looks blanked off. Any ideas how the speedo knew how fast i was going with no connection to the gearbox?

Yes the car has abs, so can the speed signal come from the sensors?

No you cant get it from one of the sensors, you would have to find the speed output from the ABS ECU, I tried but couldn't find the wire and did it the hard way with the F28.
Are you on an F20 and did you find the transducer on the old gearbox?

I'm using the F20 gearbox and no the old gearbox was blanked off where it should have a tranducer or speed cable.

Cant believe no one has told you yet, its a bit of common sense really. Think about it, your speed comes direct off your wheels on your car and therefore swapping an engine wont change that and thus you will still get a speed reading, exactly as before.
