500bhp and 1000nM of torque, not bad for an oil burner!

Diesel scares me. It just so makes so much more sense. But I have this irrational love for petrol despite it costing more to do the same.

I'm the same. The novelty of the R8 has kinda worn off now. No doubt they are good cars, but they just don't do anything for me.
This V12 one is no exception. It looks like its trying too hard to be cool.
Maybe it will grow on me like most car designs eventually do, but the fact that its a diesel makes me want to hate it.
Call me stubborn if you will, but its going to take a lot to convert me from a petrol to a diesel fan.

I dont know what people have against the R8, I absoutely LOVE them, they still turn my head every time when i see them on the street. To be honest I would prefer the petrol one too even though its slower and worse on fuel, just for the noise and the higher revs, but diesel technology is getting undeniably impressive these days

a "perfect" performance car should always have a similar torque/bhp figure??

Torque is all very well and good but its not power. Just the ability to transmit it quickly (or so i understand)

So still dont see the point? Its kind of amazing that they have developed a performance car with a diesel engine. Very worthwhile but i just dont see why anyone would buy one over the petrol one!

Normal R8 yes.

R8 Barryboys Edition, no.

If it had that engine with this aero kit:

...then I'd be arranging myself a contract with Kleenex.

I think i'd prefer a Lamborghini Gallardo. There are a few lines on the R8 that I just don't agree with. But I still like the R8 a lot....

It looks stunning but......... Its a Diesel, which will never be cool no matter what power/torque it produces.
