Extra battery, controls for adjusting aperture/shutter speed, shutter button. When you use mine with a EN-EL4 Battery i get 8fps instead of 6.

Its more stable, feels better to hold when shooting portrait. Oh and it looks better

Interesting that you get a speed boost with yours - don't think the Canon one does that

I got one for my D40 which makes if better to handle with larger lenses.

Limitation on the canon is how fast it can write to the card, nothing to do with power issues, which i'm only assuming is the reason for speed up with a battery pack.

You want a zoom lens for christmas? But its May lol!

In any case, they're both pretty expensive and pushing into the 'semi-pro' range I would imagine. Just make sure that a lens like that doesn't just get put to one side and that you'll use it a lot to make it worth the money.

Well its up to you. I spent more than that on a single lens not so long ago, but mostly because I hope that it'll pay back itself as I photograph for race teams.

I'd be a little more nervous of spending that much on something unless I knew it was going to be used to its full potential.

Only you can say whether you REALLY want/need something like that.

Not trying to put you off at all, just don't want you to blow all your cash
