depends how hard you hit it with your map, if it's a big hard back one it will dent your car and lead to poor aerodynamics

No, its just the same as the standard ecu map.
What will damage it is an incorrect map.

Most places say that the life of the engine will be lessend by 5%. Though an engine is designed to last for 200,000 or maybe even 300,000 miles so 5% of that is nothing when the chassis of the car will be pretty ropey after 150,000 miles.

all comes down to the map itself. if its a postbox remap/flash remap then it will be nothing more than a rough guess, if its live mapped specifically for that engine and mods then you will find you will get better economy, better drivability and more power.

Ask John, he knows loads about remaps, after all he is an expert as he has done lots of mapping, he even has his own postbox dyno.

I would have thought it shortens the life span of other components (clutch, gearbox etc) unless you have uprated parts than can take an uprated map

its not so much the map that will shorten the engines lifespan, its the way the engine is driven after the remap.

If the question is "will I shorten the life of my engine if I remap it and then give it death everywhere" then yes it will.

Depends on what has been done to the 1.6 and what power they are wanting to squeeze out of it.
