Just driven my car for the first time today since Castle Combe in April and I've noticed a klonking when braking.
Its only when youv'e come to stop and the weight kind of lifts of the front almost as you lift off the peral, and the klonk (just the one) comes from the nearside towards the middle of the car.
I've jacked it up and can't find anything lose, ie, rear engine mount, buhes, antirool bar etc etc.
It doesn't make the noise when you load the car up going round bends etc, just braking forward and in reverse.
Any suggestions much appreciated.

Have you tried for play on the inner CV joints?

The outers seemed ok but didn't think of the inners
|

Outers will clunk on turning but inners usually clunk on acceleration and braking. If there is nothing loose like you said then inner joints looks likely.

If the disc is loose so would the wheel which you'd know about. I've had a loose caliper and that only knocked when going over bumps, It's unlikely to clunk when braking as the caliper is locking onto the disc, Suppose it could be the cause but I'd still go for inner joint as he did say it was coming from centre of the car.

I've had the bottom bolt come out of my caliper carrier before, that caused a hell of a clunk when braking.
Then tested my clutch reactions when it decided to do it randomly, locking the brake up when going 30mph

Like I say only on braking, there is no klonk on acceleration or deceleration.

ive got a simler problem and i found the problem was the bushes on the anti roll bar so when i brake the cars waight pushes it forward and nocks.

i got the same problem devloped after it was lowered , is yours lowered, i tried it yesterday on track where i can hear the knock only when i brake

I am thinking that it could be the caliper.
But its been raining so I havn't been able to look, but will bear all the points in mind.

Do none of you guys tightening up your calipers properly when doing a brake change?
I'm amazed at how many people get loose calipers.

I never did that side of the car. But that will teach me for not checking what my mate does on my car

I hear that bud. I double check anybody does to my car, Even mechanics after a few bad experiences.
I do have one mate who I do trust enough to not check though.

I only hear it when i first brake if I brake again it does not knock again then if i go in reverse and brake i haer the knock again will try to see caliper but i doubt as i used tread lock last time I changed my calipers (calibra ones) thats the reason why ppl get loose calipers as they do not use tread lock !!!

I never use thread lock, I tend to torque them up.
The bolts from new come with a type of thread lock on, I have heard people say you should renew the bolts but don't.

sorry to get this tread up again but i think i found my fault i got powerflex on Front Tie Bar To Chassis and they are the fault they are flexable and moving in and out as I press the brakes I will contact powerflex asap !!

I found my fault.
I checked every single nut and bolt for tightness and found that where I had fitted my polyflex bushes and nut wasn't done up proper tight or had just worked itself slightly lose.
It was the lower arm bush/fixing bolt and it just needed another 3/4 of a turn to get it super tight.

look at my problem you can see the powerflex bush is bending in the bracket did someone ever had this fault ?
