I acquired a heat gun today from a Grandad who passed away... So I want to make my own depos... Basically, how?? lol.

I heard that all you do is heat up the light and gently prize them appart... But where abouts do you apply heat?? Because surely if it's applied in the wrong place it will crack the glass??

Just information/ a guide on doing it would be much appreciated

Carl..

EDIT:

Had a go... didn't go well... Tried with hair drier and prising with a knife, chipped the glass!! So filled sink with boiling water and also inside light, kept leaving and having another go with knives, not a chance... So got heat gun, heated it around edge, tried to get a knife in, hot plastic went all out of shape and melted :S

Gonna buy some angel eyes now, seems impossible to do!

CJ..

Someone did DIY Depo's the other day on here, said he put them in hot water for a bit to warm the glue up.

You'll only crack the glass if you blast heat at it in one place for too long, making it expand too fast. If you move the heat around then you should be fine.

Because that wont work.

That's a guaranteed way to destroy them

I tried to do my own with Valeo lamp units and they were impossible to get apart, even ended up breaking one!
Try and get either Depo or Lucas items and they are a piece of piss to do. I done mine with a hairdryer and it takes 5 mins max to get the lense off, didn't even need a screwdriver, just prise it apart with your fingers.

if you are gonna do diy depos then make sure the lights have got the clips kepping the lens on the light.valeo make the glue impossible 2 get off but you can buy standard lights with the clips on which makes the glue easier 2 get off hence the clips.

Why do people keep saying valeos are hard to get apart on my old corsa i had valeos and i tinted them black.

Just stuck it in the oven on full and kept checking them till the glue would budge, but make sure the lights dont melt

I just got some valeos apart today did smash one though :/ but its by no means impossible i just got impatient luk great wen dun though! still not as gud as real depos as they have the clear lense. just got a replacement lense for the smashed one. used a hairdryer and a very fat flat blade but i think boiling water wud work betteras long as u gradually heat the water up or theyll probs jus crack.
