Guys,
I'm off to France in a few weeks and have had the bizarre idea to try and get a french dictionary and maps onto my Ipod touch.
Is there any way to do it ? Or have an apps been created i can just download and install somehow?
Any help appreciated like always

Yep. Very easy to do. Is the Touch jail broken? What firmware are you on?

Jailbreak it with one of those. When you do, an app called Installer is installed. It connects to the web and finds apps to install from it's sources.

It's an iPod Touch, not an iTouch.
Jailbreaking allows you to customize it and install 3rd party applications such as games.

I couldn't be arsed to type iPod touch, I'm lazy!
So if I jailbreak my "iPod touch" will it mess anything up? iTunes etc?

Nope... But the warrenty is void if you do. They're very reliable anyway. Anyone with half a brain cell jailbreaks their Touch as it's very, very limited without jailbreaking it. It's a completely different gadget once done.
Let me know if you need any help and I'll talk you through how to do it on the phone or whatever.

Bought it second hand a few weeks ago so no warrenty anyway tbh - I got it cheap on the bay as I searched for people calling them itouch rather than ipod touch - less competition then
I paid not much over £100 for a 16GB one, had a couple of pics of the fitteh ex-owner left on it aswell!

use iLiberty instead of ZiPhone, apparently the programmer does some dodgy stuff like changing mac addresses to a standard HEX address, plus other stuff.
Eitherway, it's a piece of piss and takes about 10minutes

Yeah jules, it works on the phone and touch. Mine was just the touch, didn't need to do any of the pre stuff, just clicked jailbreak, it did some cool stuff and then when i unlocked it, installer and zibri's blog were there.
Clicked installer, added some sources (Just google ipod installer sources) and then watched as thousands of programs became available
I must say the coolest app is a spirit level

When you jailbreak it, it adds an app called installer. Click that when on wifi and it shows you apps to download.
If you search google, you will find loads more sources which you can add to the installer
