enjoy it!

Get the revs right. Too much and you will spin up aggresively, too little and you will bog down. The key to a good 1/4 mile time is in the start!

Over inflate your tyres, you'll get a better time. 50psi would do. Don't hit the rev limiter before you change gear, this will ruin your time. Do a few runs and change what rpm your shift. For example you may find you get a better time if you shift at 5800rpm rather than 6000rpm.

overinflate the non driven wheels will decrease rolling resistance, but doing the same to the driven wheels will decrease grip.
you want to under inflate the driven wheels if you're messing around with tyre pressures.

drive as fast as you can to the finish line
practice makes perfect, dont expect to run the best time you ever do in your first go

you only have to under inflate your tyres if you have like 500bhp
You not watch vroom vroom? Its tried and tested, 50psi all round drops your time

vrooom vroooom
what a load of smear.
those tests are about as scientific as my ball sack.
they do 1 run with each change. the barometric pressure change between runs probably has more effect tbh

Rolling road is different to a drag strip, you do need high tyre pressure on a rolling road.
High pressure in the tyres on the strip will give you a faster terminal speed but give you a good hand at wheel spining all the way down.
And lower pressure will give better times but lower terminal speeds. When I was doing it I ran about 10-15psi in the fronts and 50 in the back. after you have span the wheels at the start the pressure will increase anyway.

As said, try and get a decent balance of revs so you don't light up, but don't bog down. In a GTi, I'd imagine between 2500-3500 would be decent, but give it a few runs to find the perfect balance

Don't rev to the limiter. It isn't where all the power is.
To try and get the book figure for 0-60, apparently you either have to be really quick, or not use the clutch for 1st to 2nd
^ definitely heard that somewhere can't remember where though.

wouldnt it just crunch if you tried to go from 1st to 2nd without using the clutch?

What I thought. Apparently it's near on possible to get book 0-60 figures :shrugs:

You do need to rev to the limiter, so your at optimum rev's in the next gear.. (in a gti anyway)
Basically from launch...
Dont spin up on the slippy stuff, it will do nothing other than possibly a shaft.
When you get to the line always try and be there before the other person so you have adequate time to set your self.
Set revs to about 3500 and release the clutch slowly, balancing throttle and clutch, once your going release your clutch and floor it all the way.
Also... Lower tyre pressure to about 18 - 20 psi at the front.
And having a vts and doing 14 runs at pod in it. I would say launch at 3500, change at 7.2 - 7.4k rpm.

Totally depends what car.
12v has red line of 6krpm, power dips massively at about 4.5krpm - 5krpm. Going all the way to 6krpm wouldn't make good times.
I'm sure Fonz will back me up

I know what you mean cause in my ibiza up the strip reving to about 6k was best when limit was past 7

also don't get to the line and start revving the tits off it.
the fat controller will just laugh at you and not activate the lights for a while to make you look even more stupid

he speaks the truth!
mine after RR had peak power at 4250rev/min
dropping dramatically after 5k to the line at 6k
i'd suggest dump the clutch at 3500, my fastest run was my first after i started with higher revs, lots of wheels spin (or so i thought) but all other runs were slower with less revs and spin - must have been some good in all that spinning!!
