are these any good parts hard to get hold of?best to go for a low mileahe one? heard they have head gasket problems?anyone got one on here?and take it that the 105 bit means it got 105 bhp?and are they quick for a 1.4?

yeah they are pretty nippy for a 1.4 tbh, you can get decent parts for it and i think its only about 103bhp so i am told

Head gasket is a real problem yes. I wouldn't go near one personally but sure they go ok for a 1.4

My mate had a 214 which he sold to another mate so we still see it.

Go for a low mileage one if you can, as the head gasket would be less likely to go then, or it will take longer to go, because it probably will on those old K-series engines.

They can mod quite nicely, and you can get them to sound good, and they go nicely for a 1.4 seeing as they rev to 6,750 and are geared more towards power than economy so you'll get about 39mpg (in theory) but you get the benefit of just over 100bhp.

I wouldn't. Head gaskets are a problem and spares are either expensive or you can't get them.

For 5k I would look elsewhere. Get a nice Corsa C SRi or something.

SRi just looks better and the older ones had the z14xe the newer ones have the z14xep which is the Twinport engine.

Its your choice at the end of the day but a nice Corsa is a world apart from the Rover/MG

Complete opposite to this 214 then Sunroof and boot leak, drear door cards coming off, parcel shelf bounces so much that it's ruined his 6x9's

Personally for that much I would get an SRi as well, but if you want something other than a Vauxhall they'd be alright.

Pre-facelift SRi's come as 1.4, 1.8 and 1.7 CDTi

Dont buy one.

The headgaskets can go at anytime, Not just high mileage. Its a fault, Its not wear and tear.

My girlfriends brother has a blue one on a 55 plate and hates it. They are nippy, Thats about it. Everything else is shit.

The parts are either expensive or you cant get hold of them.

It's a gamble with the gaskets, really. If it goes then it can go 3 ways, one of them not too bad and just needs replacing, another way you'll need new oil and the third way you need to get the whole cooling system flushed or something, because oil gets into it. I think it's something like that.

If it feels dirty then you know what our vote is

True haha.

Or get an SRi+. If not then get the badges and the interior (I think that's what's different )

That looks nice mate, I'm a fan of red or black C's myself though, but it's your choice

Not that we're on the topic any more, but my mate who originally owned the 214 said this over MSN "alot of the time headgaskets go is because the water drops too low, but there are many ways"

If you can afford to buy/run and insure a 1.8 its defo the pick of the bunch.
