Give it a shot, you can only learn. That guide just takes out the imperfections during the manufacturing process, which is worthwhile doing.

Well i've got a head in the shed doing nothing with 4 bent valves so wont loose nothing if it goes pear shaped.
what can be done after taking out imperfections?

If it's a 16 valve you could knife edge the ports I suppose.
