You need the right motherboard, the right processor and the right BIOS.
You probably don't need to overclock your computer though.

The basics are:
Clock speed = FSB x Multiplier
FSB = Front Side Bus.
In a decent BIOS for a decent motherboard, you can adjust both the Multiplier and the BIOS, increasing voltage to help stability but balancing this with core temperatures.
To make it worth while, you need to spend alot on decent memory that will run stable at a good speed, and good cooling.
Don't bother tbh, since the good old days of XP2500 mobile chips where you could practically double the CPU Speed it just doesn't seem worth it

Most motherboards will allow you to overclock a processor, but only to a certain extent. More specific boards will allow you overclock further. Same goes for the processor.
Theres a few good guides on the overclockers.co.uk forums (under cpu section) that states the basics, but i would have a good read around as ideally you need atleast a decent PSU and Cooling otherwise it'll just be unstable from the word go.
Kyle - overclocking is worth it, take the Q6600, 3.6GHz on air and atleast 4GHz on water, which puts it up against processors that are double the price if not more! (and yes i know you have to pay for a decent heatsink/cooling and other bits, but it usually works out cheaper)

The reason I say it's not worth it - is because I ALWAYS end up spending a fortune on any rig that I've overclocked in the past since Im always pushing for a few more MHZ or 3DMarks In the end it would have worked out cheaper to buy a higher spec machine and leaving it alone
