Hello people - this is my first post...

I'm 17 and just about to buy a Corsa for my first car. I've passed my theory and booked my test for the 6th of September - so not that long now.

I've always wanted a Corsa so I will be getting one, but I've only got £1000 saved and don't want to spend much more than that. I really wanted a Black SXi like my mate Carl but due to me having 3 points on my licence for an LC20 and having to claim for a stolen moped last year - my cheapest quote on a 1.2 SXi has been £2,300 odd.

I want to add some subtle engine mods to the car, and from what I've gathered a drilled airbox with a sponge panel filter, intake manifold and exhaust manifold/full system are all worth while?

IS THERE A DIFFERENCE IN POWER BETWEEN THE 1.2 8V AND 16V ENGINES?

I've worked with 2-stroke engines for ages but this is all totally different so I'd really appreciate some advice!

Thanks, Joe.

PS. Anyone from the Medway towns area on here? Laker Road?

1.2 8v is terrible, bad on fuel, exceedigly slow.

16v is a much better engine, quite a difference in power.

if you want an engine with a bit of power stay well away from the 1.2 8v it has 45bhp i think the 16v has 70bhp you could get a decent 1.4 16v corsa sport for £1000 though

Theres the Merit, Breeze, etc.. I wouldn't know where to look?

8v makes alot of difference ... just look at VTRs (98bhp standard mk2), VTS (120bhp standard)

22bhp for the sake of 8v's just puts it into perspective really how much of a difference there is =]

i had a conviction on a moped when i was 16 cd10... i rang up elephant asked weather or not i had to put it down on the insurance and they said no i didnt need to as it wasnt on a car?!?!? i recorded the conversation with two separate people and that bought the price down on my insurance by 400quid! also add 3 named drivers to the policy (older people) and that should bring it down even more.. if the above works out for you you can probally insure a 16v 1.6 sport! if not defo a 1.4 sport
