I needed some new ear phones, after reading this thread the other day
http://www.corsasport.co.uk/board/viewthread.php?tid=451381&page=1
I thought I'd go for some Sennheiser cx300 ear phones.
Went to Curreys, bought some off the shelf.
Got home, plugged it into my iphone. Nothing. The iphone plays music and the ear phones do nothing.
Plugged them into the ear phone port of laptop ... nothing.
wtf?

Do they fit into the iphone socket properly?
The jack is too deep and small for normal headphones to fit in without trimming the connector down.

John, I think it's to do with this. But strangely I google Cx300 and iphone and people on forums say they use them
I'd hack up the connector if I knew it'd fit, otherwise I'll hack it up, it won't fit and then I won't be able to return it.
If i push really hard on the headphone jack in the iphone, it does slightly make sound come out of 1 ear... I think it needs to go in a bit further ...

The iPhone has been designed so that you can only use iPhone headphones. You need an adaptor to get them to work.
That'll be £10 at the Apple Store (or a few pence on eBay).

Depends which iPhone you have.
The 3G iPhone headphone socket isn't recessed so you can use any you like but the older iPhone you can't do that.

I have the Sennheiser cx400's and they work just fine on my 16gb touch.

Jules - read james post.
16gb probably doesn't have the recessed ear plug socket.

I can't recommend them
Although in the PC, they seemed loud, but not exactly crystal clear imo?
I liked my ipod ear phones
I don't want an adapter jack, it'll make my phone look shit with this hanging out the top
Apple are so bent, why do they bother trying to stop people using other things, people will always get around it - don't punish your customer!

I reckon I could make this fit, by just chizzling a bit off the plastic on the earphone jack.
Otherwise, I need to get some ear phones within about 2 days
anyone got any ipod ear phones spare?
Neo gave me his last set, but they just died - I nearly always have ear phones in at laptop / or walking about - they get abused.

Problem Solved
Just went into my dads work shop, got a file out and just filed the fucker down to a standard ipod sized thing...
Fits like a glove now - although it's a bit grubby

Chiselling the jack wont help very much. The iPhone headset is specific to it because it has a button and mic on it.
I don't think they prevent you from using any headset without and adaptor just to be gay, there may be some method in their gayness there...

eh ed?
I chizzled the jack so it fitted in the top of my iphone and it fits and works? So it did help a lot.

Fair game. I thought it wouldn't work because the jacks are different... Sorted

Obviously it won't work as a hands free kit like the standard iphone ones(obviously) which is what I think Ed was saying, but as headphones they should be ok.

Yeah there is a mic in them and a little button. You can use it to control the Ipod aswell.
