Power steering pump, rear axle, transponder chip in key-they can crack easily and make the connection between the immob ring and the chip awkward. it wont turn over in this case.

When you look at one, make sure it isn't a 106 GTi.

If it is, walk away.

make sure it's started from cold, as i can imagine a lot of these will be ragged from the second it is started up.
check for a rattly engine and smoke coming out the exhaust.

People always said the 1.4 8v engines in the Corsas were bombproof, ive destroyed 2 of them (without meaning to and not necessarily driving like a bender). So take that with a pinch of salt....

Bulletproof? Errr, no! TBH look out for everything, be especially cautious when checking over the usuals. Every 106 ive had has gone wrong and more than once. Gearboxes as said are prone to breaking in my experience.

IMO VTs's are bullet proof.

My mate bought his the same time as me 2 years ago, i did 12k hes now done 24k and gives it death EVERYWHERE. Gearbox still fine, engine still fine.

Has whined the last year and is fine, been used on trackdays too etc..

Personally i would just look out for panel alignment. Wobbly gearstick, steering clunks, these are the only problems me and my mate have had with ours.

Look for anything that is French, or say Made in France on it.

Watch out when removing any interior trim, as the clips are garunteed to snap.
