A showcage is just another thing that's got the potential to come loose and cause serious injury in the event of a crash.

You've got to ask yourself... why?

I disagree........I had a showcage in my old Corsa that was made by Brett Warburton (mint green nova) I think his cages were called Fearless??? They were polished alloy cages but were properly bolted in. One of his mates who had one fitted in a Nova rolled on track and the cage stopped the roof collapsing.

The reason they were called "show" cages was that they had not met any kind of saftey approval. Not all show cages are the same but to be honest Ive not seen the £99 ebay ones and dont know hoe they fit!?

... then again it is a forum and people are allowed to voice their opinions.

And it's not as if it's just mindless ranting - peoples' safety could be at risk. I think it's worthwhile they know the possible dangers.

show cages! cool, get some of those fake rear discs too while youre at it!

if you want to look like youve bought a roll cage, why not just buy a roll cage? at least people wont laugh at you.

But cars with proper roll cages generally dont have seats in the rear and the front seats are most of the time buckets with harness's,Which would stop your head etc from hitting the cage.

IMO having a show cage over a real cage is liking buy g-max suspension instead of £1000 coilovers.

It gives the desired look without spending silly money on a car that is used to drive to and from work and sit in car park with your mates.

Anyone who buys an offical safety marked cage for a car that is used on the road for the majority of the time is pretty silly

Pishwater.

What if you have your car soley(sp) to drive enthusiastically around twisty B-roads? And before anyone says anything, you do not need to speed to enjoy driving.

If I had a full/half cage done up to some sort of safety standard I'd feel a lot more confident. Never minding the fact that it stiffens up the (whole) chassis.

But if you want to buy something from E-bay for £99 with no sort of certification, safety evaluation or even proof of good craftsmanship then go ahead.

Sorry for the rant, but I've heard nothing but bad things about show cages.

All depends on the cage I guess, like I say mine was bolted to the floor and rear turrets just as a proper cage would be. It just didnt have any sort of type approval.

my mates got one in his 106, looks nice and goes well with the overall look. he knows it does nothing to stiffen the car up. i think it depends on the car for the coolness factor. people may laugh at him but people may laugh at your car but you will never know, life goes on...

I'm sorry if I'm one of these people who are 'taking it too seriously' but if a cage comes apart due to shoddy welding in a crash you're going to know all about it.
