That's a bloody big range.
and actually that's bloody big in general!! 2 3/4" to 3 1/2"? I don't think so

A 200SX also runs a bloody turbo, so has a fair bit more gasses to get rid of than an N/A 1.8 
I know when Muppetsport was running around 350-400 bhp from his C20LET, he was running a 3" system (76mm).
There is no way at all that a standard 1.8 will need anything that size.
Steve, for that engine I would guess at somewhere between 2" and 2 1/2", definitely no bigger.
