if either my battery or altenator is wanked, would it cause my redtop not to run properly, or just problems starting?

if there is enough power in the battery to start your car then it wouldnt cause any running problems

Have you done a voltage test on battery and alternator?
Maybe the battery has enough charge in it to start but if your alternator is under charging it could cause the ECU to have fits when driving.
