righto - cant make head nor tail of the online PDF
http://www.planningportal.gov.uk/uploads/br/BR_PDF_ADF_2006.pdf
All it bangs on about is extraction rates. I need to know if the hob extractor/ cooker hood needs to be vented to open air or if it can run on recirculate?!
Anyone know?
This is a new kitchen, so we needed to get planning permission etc.

The cooker hood that's just been fitted here has an option to put an active charcoal folter in it instead of a hole through the wall.

yes... most do... BUT what are the Regulations?
I know what the extractors can do, but not what we 'should' do?

you need 60l/s in the kitchen
if you have a cooker hood only need to be vented to external
nothing stopping you from having a cooker hood recirculating and an extract ducted to external
hope this helps

ok.... that answers it.... MUSt have somethin gventing to externl
(feckin reg's... we have a bloody external door we can just open )
Reason i was asking is we'll need to get a hole cut in about 2ft of grantite. Thats going to be fun!
Anyone know rough current prices for coreholes? £100 a hole?

As for cutting the hole, you can hire the drill and core bits from tool hire places. Mate has used a place like this near me and he said they just measure the teeth on the drill and remeasure it when you return it, then work out the cost from how much you've taken off. Might not be the same elsewhere like.

A hire drill would be OK for red brick and breeze blocks, but granite ...

where does it tell you it needs to be vented out, just uses the recirculating carcoal fiter in it.
most kitchens have them, my flat (three years old now) only has it with the filter.. nothing is piped out.
is there not a window in your kitchen?

there is an external door....
In the plans we submitted we had it drawn as being externally vented as we 'thought' we had to. BUT I cant see anything that clearly says it must be.

best thing is to ring the council building regs department and ask, or check with them when they come out to inspect... do it before you need to.

shouldnt need anything if you have an door that goes eternal, that'll give u a free area of 35cm2 anyway...
only need the vent for cooker in a very small room but i assume ur kitchen is pretty big that you may not need it at all.
whats the size of kitchen in mtrs'3?

Core Drilling 2ft thick Granite is going to cost you £250 minimum if you want a subcontractor to carry it out
