Finally got me the SLR I've been longing for

Photo number 475 and it's the first one I've been properly happy with although most have just been random crap lying around in my bedroom

im probably guna sound really thick now, but how do you makie it so that you can read the lettering as when you take imags in a mirror they are reversed, do you just reverse them again in ps?

I can't believe how much better it is than the S5600 I had before

Just need to get out shooting with it now, went out the other night but forgetting to knock the IS off when it was on a tripod made all the pics a bit shakey

Deano, your best bet is to have a good read of the manual. Have the camera handy whilst your reading it and just keep picking it up and trying things out as you're reading through it. I find that the best way then when you've read it and tried stuff whilst it's fresh in your mind then once you've done that you should have a much better understanding then it's just a case of getting out, taking loads of pics, come back, tidy em up if they need it, post some of em up here or even better get on Talk Photography and ask people for c&c then most importantly, read their comments, take it on board, then go out again and again and again. You'll soon get the hang of it.

Another point, if you take a photo then when you get it up on the computer there's something wrong with it or there's something about it that doesn't look right but you can't put your finger on what it is, don't just delete it, post it up somewhere, get other's opinions. You may not be sure on why it's not come out properly but there's a good chance that someone else will.

couldn't concentrate on my Uni work, so been taking loads of snaps round the house. Need somewhere to host that doesn't compress 'em though, see thread

i think the image he waqs after thoguh that takes soe doing ( im tryign myself) is to get the writing on lense cristal clear then the rest going blury, similar to macro, but withough flash to reduce glare

Not so good attempt, the lights are directly above the mirror, didn't notice the glare round the lens until I had it on the computer

What way are you using to turn to black and white, or did you take it that way.

I used black and white and blue channel in photoshop, blue looked the best.

Mine was a 2 second exposure too I think, ( someone check the exif ) its deffo on a tripod though

and i took it in colour but over exposed it cause I wanted me to be blown a bit, then just - - saturation and ++ contrast

Still nowhere near as sharp as yours though mike.

How does the original look? To me it looks like it's quite a sharp pic but uploading to cs has killed the quality.
