If you're going to smooth the rear panels, you'd probably be best off making a set of new metal panels slightly larger then welding them on , then doing the smoothing like i did on my van.....

We took the original metal panels out and used them as templates on some steel to make slightly bigger ones then welded them on as the pics show above

do you just tack the steel in, do you have to go over the hole new panel with filler or just over the welds

weldin them in is a more secure way of fitting them but with time and body flex ur filler will crack thru ur paint its lyk when fittin a bonnet scoop and leaving the standard bonnet lift arm at the one side the other sags and ur bonnet filler cracks at the top corners.. but hey i ant had it happen to me but thats my opinion... any more questions?

Mine was done for around 2 years and i didn't have any cracking in any of the smoothed windows. But then i didn't have a loud audio system in mine, just a quick engine.

Charlton, yeah i miss it too

I didn't want to prove you wrong, just that mine hadn't cracked. Its all down to doing the job properly.

Smashing loads of filler into the standard rear panels to smooth them will probably result in cracking.
