Noticed lately the fan is constantly on, and there is a lot oh heat coming from the tower. Is there anything that can be wrong, or anything to be done e.g. fitting a larger fan/cleaning it out?

Give the fans a bit of a clean.

Does it crash a lot? CPU could be getting a bit fucked.

As already said hoover the inside out, be careful around the smaller components like bits on the motherboard. If you look there should be a fan sitting on top and a big metal square that is made up of lots of thin sheets of metal, that is you heatsink and there will be shiteloads of crap stuck in there so get the hoover around all the sides of it. While its open (AFTER YOU HAVE FINISHED HOOVERING) turn it all on and inspect the fans to make sure they are all spinning. If you want get close enough to each of them to listen to the amount of noise its making, it could just be a bearing knackered inside and is usually just pull out and replace with a £3 job

Just gave it a good hoover out, seems a lot quieter now.

It doesnt crash at all, it works perfectly, sometimes it will go a little slow, but other than that its spot on.

Not really up on computers, but i noticed a long board in a yellow socket type of thing with one empty next to it, am i right in thinking this is the memory boadrs? How easy is it to upgrade the memory, is it just plug and play or a lot more complicated?

Bonney, for RAM upgrades go to Crucial.com (uk site) and put in the model number of your packard bell computer in the RAM upgrade tool and it will tell you exactly which sticks will fit for you

I took my pc apart recently and the amount of dust that was inside I took the heat shield off of the processor and there was just a lump of dust on top - The best thing is to use a can of air and a hoover

Run the Memory Scan on Crucial. Will tell you the speed you need and type. Will also tell you what slots you have spare.
